David Slaying Goliath . . . Our Work for You.

David

When visiting our offices, you may see an old engraving of David after he slayed Goliath. The David and Goliath story is a well-known inspirational story, reminding us that hard work, determination, and skill can let one who brings less power to the fight can nevertheless prevail.

The original artist of our print was Alessandro Turchi (1578-1649), an Italian, who was known as l'Orbetto. This painting, David, was sold at a Sotheby's auction of Important Old Master Paintings. A reviewer of the auction wrote, "There was considerable enthusiasm for a larger work, Lot 46, "David with the Head of Goliath," by Alessandro Turchi, called L'Orbetto (1578-1649), oil on canvas. The 48 by 37 inch work, which was better than many Caravaggios but slightly different in its painterly style and not in perfect condition, had a high estimate of $80,000 and sold for $233,500. . . ." Lippman & Semsker's print was engraved by A.H. Payne of Dresden & Leipzig in approximately 1850.
